FAQ: Why do we need to have a child support order?

By Katherine Sierra-Kelly

Child Support Orders are generally required in cases involving separated parents. Child Support Orders provide a guide for the parties as to who is responsible for what child related costs. Often, one parent will try to dictate what the other parent should pay and when these payments should be made. A Child Support Order will provide a specific amount to be paid to the other parent each month, outline any additional costs that the parties are responsible for in regard to their children’s care, and detail which parent can claim the minor child or children for tax purposes and under what circumstances that can occur.

Having a clear child support order will help eliminate arguments as to who needs to provide what financially for your child or children. Our attorney’s will work you to ensure this order is clear and concise so there is no confusion regarding financial obligations for the children.
