Protection orders are court orders that keep people safe from another person that has been doing or saying threatening things towards them. For example, the victim of domestic violence may seek a protection order to keel themselves and their children safe from their abuser. Similarly, someone may seek an order against someone that has been harassing them via text message to make that person stop. Often, these orders set specific requirements regarding keeping the offender away and out of contact from the victim. Sometimes, these orders require the surrender of weapons. If an order is violated, it may result in a serious criminal charge. Unfortunately, rarely these court orders are abused and used strategically to keep parents aware from children or for one party to gain an advantage over another. In any instance, we can help you navigate these complex situations.
