FAQ: Child Support: What if we Share Custody?

If you enter into a shared custody or parenting time agreement to co-parent your children following your divorce, your child support will be calculated based upon the percentage of time, typically overnights, that each parent has with the children, the gross income of each parent, the assignment of the child tax credit, and which parent is covering the cost of health insurance for the children.

In some states, travel costs may be considered in the child support calculation. For example, when one parent must travel a longer distance to exercise parenting time.
