M. Scott Leibenguth

Raised in Central Indiana, M. Scott Leibenguth is a Senior Family Law Attorney with Gravis Law based in Portland, Oregon. Scott focuses exclusively on family law.

Scott represents clients across the full spectrum of family law sub practice areas, including dissolution of marriage, custody and visitation disputes, child support, paternity actions, modifications and relocations, enforcement proceedings, minor guardianships, stepparent adoptions, terminations, and pre and post nuptial agreements. His practice also includes collaborative law and complex custody matters involving grandparents’ rights, including appearing Pro Hac Vice in Washington State on the issue of grandparents’ custody rights.

In addition to litigation, Scott has extensive training in mediation and family law mediation through DePaul University School of Law and Pepperdine University School of Law. He regularly assists clients in resolving disputes through mediation and parenting coordination, providing structured processes designed to reduce conflict and create workable long term parenting arrangements. He also has experience representing children in family law proceedings, ensuring that their interests are properly presented in high conflict matters.

Scott earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Economics from Indiana University and his Juris Doctor from Willamette University College of Law, where he served on Law Review. He was admitted to the Oregon State Bar in 1994.

Throughout his career, Scott has remained actively involved in shaping the practice of family law. He is a member of the Oregon State Bar Family Law Section, the Multnomah County Bar Association, the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts, the Oregon Academy of Family Law Practitioners, and the National Association of Counsel for Children. He has served on multiple executive and advisory committees, including the Oregon State Bar Executive Committee, Oregon Academy of Family Law Practitioners Executive Committee, AFCC Chapter Coordinating and Executive Committees, the Multnomah Bar Association Judicial Screening Committee, the Multnomah Bar Association Continuing Legal Education Committee, and the Multnomah County Family Law Advisory Committee.

Scott is also a frequent speaker on family law mediation, parenting coordination, and the representation of children, presenting for the Oregon State Bar, local bar associations, children’s rights organizations, and the National Business Institute. His involvement in both litigation and alternative dispute resolution allows him to assist clients in selecting and implementing the strategy best suited to their specific circumstances.

Outside of his legal practice, Scott enjoys spending time with his wife, traveling, dining with friends, and hiking.
