Proclamation encouraging utility providers to mitigate economic impact of COVID-19.

On March 18, 2020, Washington Governor Jay Inslee signed multiple proclamations as a result of the February 29, 2020 proclamation of a State of Emergency for all counties throughout the State of Washington and the worldwide spread of COVID-19 through the emergency powers under RCW 43.06.220. What follows is a summary of those proclamations and what that means for Washington residents:

Proclamation 20-23 – UTC – Ratepayer Assistance
Proclamation 20-23 encourages utility providers to take action to mitigate economic impacts of COVID-19 on customers including the following during the statewide emergency declaration:

  1. Acting to prevent disconnection of services due to non-payments;
  2. Waiving late payment fees; and
  3. Using payment plans to fulfill outstanding balances.
