Since earning her Juris Doctorate cum laude at Gonzaga University School of Law in 2003, Karen Schweigert has been handling a wide variety of legal issues in Washington State. Mrs. Schweigert has settled and litigated all aspects of family law, including child custody and support issues, spousal support, non-parental custody matters, de facto parentage matters, division of property, domestic violence, and the modification and enforcement of family laws orders and judgments. She also serves on Spokane County’s registry as a Title 26 Guardian ad Litem. Mrs. Schweigert served on the Family Law Executive Committee from 2017 to 2019 and regularly teaches Continuing Legal Education classes to other Washington State attorneys.
Mrs. Schweigert has been recognized by the Spokane County Bar Association as the 2013 Divorce Advice Attorney of the Year, as the 2014 Family Law Attorney of the Year, and as the 2016 Attorney of the Year. In 2017 Spokane Coeur d’Alene Living Magazine recognized her as being a Top Lawyer in Divorce and Separation and in 2018 recognized her as being a Top Lawyer in Family Law.
Born in Germany and raised in England and a few other places, Mrs. Schweigert came to Washington State to attend Gonzaga University. Washington became her home when she met her husband. They have three children, a dog, and a cat. Mrs. Schweigert enjoys fishing, reading (especially military science fiction), white water rafting, and anything involving being able to enjoy warm weather.
